Missy MacKintosh Make Up Essentials Class Recap!

Did you miss out on last week’s Makeup Essentials class with Missy MacKinstosh? We were so excited with how things turned out, a great evening was had by all and I know the girls involved learned a ton! The feedback we received was all positive, and this will definitely be something we will be hosting more of in the future. If you’re interested in participating next time around, be sure to keep an eye on our facebook page or let us know and we’ll be sure to get in touch with you when we have dates scheduled.

Last week’s class focused on our high school aged girls and they threw everything they had already learned aside and were taught a look from the beginning. They went over each step from ‘bare face’ to ‘ready to go’ including the basics of application, to blending techniques, contouring, etc. I certainly can’t wait until I get to take the course myself…there’s more than a few things I know I need to learn!

A few of the girls were great enough to allow us to share their before and after photos. Take a quick minute to check them out below…

Make Up Essentials with Missy MacKintosh

While we’ve always admired her work, but just recently we’ve gotten the chance to work with Missy MacKinstosh on a shoot and were blown away by her skill as well as her beautiful, easy going personality! We knew right away, that she was somebody we wanted to work with on an ongoing basis…which brings us to these classes…definitely something new for us at Style Trend Clothiers, but we know it’s something our customers are going to love!

We are busy getting prepared for our first class, which will have you perfecting the basics (trust me, even if you think you know what you’re doing – this class will teach you some new tricks!) that will be happening this Thursday, October 8th from 6-8pm. You don’t want to miss out on this fun, interactive makeup lesson. Bring your own makeup bag and tools and she’ll teach you a look. Don’t worry if you don’t have everything, Missy will have her kit with her to help you out! This class is $45 + tax per person with very limited seating available. Stop in the shop or message us on facebook to hold your spot as we’re sure they’ll go quick!

Here’s a little bit about Missy

I have always had a fascination for makeup, even at the age of three I was using crayons as makeup on my dolls. When I discovered you could go to school and become a makeup artist, I was determined that was the career for me. In 2006 I graduated from Blanche McDonald in Vancouver with a diploma in Makeup Artistry. I first started in cosmetic retailing and have since stepped into freelance work where I have found my true calling. In 2014, I had the amazing opportunity of attending the Make Up Forever Academy in Paris, France, for a course specializing in Air Brushing.

Makeup amazes me. It can transform a person from everyday style, to elegant and pretty, theatrical, or to something even non-human. But what I love most, is how it can make someone feel empowered and beautiful.

multiple eyeshadows

….Welcome to our first guest blogger with some great make-up tips from her blog over at Love, Olia….

I always get a lot of readers and friends that ask me what the correct way to apply eyeshadow, or blend colors is. To be honost, it took me an awful long time to figure it out. Not that it is entirely the hardest thing to do, but to actually sit down and take the time to attempt it is just, well… not first on my to do list. After years of wearing only one color shadow at a time, and getting my makeup done several times I realized it’s time to woman up and learn it! I’m not usually one to wear too much eye makeup but for special occasions I’m a fan. Hop you enjoy my step by step tutorial on applying a few shadows at one time! This particular look is a favorite of mine because I feel like I can wear it regularly rather than a really smokey eye.

Colors Used:

MAC Vanilla (lighter), MAC Tempting (medium), MAC Club (darker)

Step 1: Using a large eyeshadow brush, apply the lighter color to the base of lashes and blend all over eyelid. You can do this all the way up to brow bone.

Step 2: Using a different brush (some people use a crease defining brush but I sometimes just stick to a regular brush) apply the second shade (medium color) into the outer part of the eyelid and blend. You can see this in photo 3 above.

You can stop here if you choose to only use two colors. For 3 colors continue on..

Step 3: Using a blending brush, use your darker color in the crease and blend outward. Use circular motions to blend well.
