We always find it exciting to welcome new lines to the shop, and seeing the gorgeous new bralettes from Sokoloff Lingerie show up last week was no exception! I have to say though, part of the excitement was because I knew a little bit about this company and it’s amazing designer, and I can’t wait to share it with you all!
When it comes to the lingerie business, Sofia Sokoloff is a small fish in a big sea – but Sofia likes it that way. The Montreal designer isn’t looking to compete with large mainstream brands, instead, the owner of Sokoloff Lingerie has found her niche, designing and manufacturing intimates in delicate lace and comfy cotton from a loft warehouse just east of downtown Montreal. The 29-year-old designer described her line as “lingerie for real women”. Sofia, who started her company in 2012, has a unique take on the industry after working briefly as a seamstress for Le Cirque du Soleil then as a technical designer at La Senza. Her objective: to fill the gap between mass-produced lingerie and high-end European lines.
Inspired by the lace she imports from Thailand, Europe and the United States, Sokoloff’s designs are feminine, sexy and comfortable with scalloped edges, see-through panels and two-tone detailing. There are no pushup bras with thick padding and minimal — if any — underwire is used in the six collections a year she produces.
“Women have to feel confident and sexy by their shape. That’s what I hope we give to them,” says the soft-spoken designer, “It’s everyday lingerie designed to fit a woman’s natural silhouette.”
